I have had problems logging into my blog. Any how, things are going good, soccer season has begun and I am still trying to fit crochet into a busy schedule.
Not to mention trying to keep up with the newest addition to our house hold. This little girl just showed up. All helpless and scared, well, now she has a forever home that is safe and loves her little ornery butt alot. We decided after a few days of deliberation to name her Angel.
Have a great day all.

Baby blankets

Got a few baby blankets finished. For the first one I did granny squares and put them on end to create a different effect for the blanket. Guess I needed to add my own touch to make it personal. The colors used were Red Heart's ocean and Mainstays white. Works great for a boy or a girl.
The second blanket I used a mesh pattern. For the border I used a mesh pattern, but for the corners I (ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc). In each corner and increased as needed. I know black for any baby blanket is very dark and depressing, but considering the baby's parents like Harley's I figured it wouldn't really matter. Plus it is less likely to stain as badly with the nasty formula and whatever else babies "get into".

Catching up some

Been working quite a bit more than I was used to. Graveyards are hard to get back into after 4 years of sleeping nights. Whew, hope the hours get easier.
My Iris' have been blooming like crazy over the last 2 or 3 weeks, all shades of purple. I was so happy, until...Well one of the superstition iris, which are supposed to be almost black, it decided to bloom a bright snowy white. It looked really out of place in all the center of all the dark colors.

I managed to get pictures of all these kids. How nice...nothing like dumping snow after a week of 45+ degree weather. Oh well, it will soon be summer. The sunsets are gorgeous and with spring right around the corner they will only get prettier.
Harry Potter Pita, she let me put these glasses on her only because she was still recovering from her latest surgery. If one discontinues a color then one of the others is sure to have it. The only thing I can think is to check other Wal-Mart stores if there are any close by. I know the Wal-mart in Altoona and Knoxville still carry that color...I am sure we can figure something out to get you what you need. It's been a hectic week. Just a warning to those of you with pets, watch your babies around thread of any sort. We just got our baby, Pita, back from the vet after emergency surgery Sunday afternoon... little missie decided to eat about 4 yards of thread out of my sewing machine. Little dork, she got it caught around her tounge and swallowed the rest... thankfully I caught it early enough that she didn't get too weak and die on me. Now the threat of an infection is our biggest concern. All's good for now though, she is resting alot and acting like the baby she really is. This is her Monday right after we brought her home, she was still fighting the effects of all the drugs.

Wow I do have alot to catch up on, I have been making quilt tops and have 3 of the 7 done so far, but since Pita is hurt I am putting the sewing on hold for a few weeks until she is not in need of 24/7 supervision. I also am in the process of making a special cover for the thread on the machine. This will be to eliminate the cats from eating any more of it.

Will catch up more later, my pc is trying to do it's own thing and I need to check on Pita and feed her breakfast. Have a great day and keep safe.

Newest Shawl

Ok so this is a close up of the pattern, not the clearest thing in the world, but it shows some of the detail.
This is the finished shawl, my model was gone so I used a computer chair.
For lack of anything creative to do for a border, I used a fan stitch and increased by one chain between each fan stitch each row. It gave the appearance of a gentle ruffle. The pattern was simple, I just chained 250 and mesh stitched the whole thing. All chains and double crochets. Every 3rd row is beaded. It took 4 tubes of glass beads and not even a full ball of bedspread cotton. It turned out heavier than I had wanted, but to get a formal look something had to be done to make it different.

Good day to all, be safe.

Survived the Holidays

Wow, now that Christmas is over, the kids are back in school, the tree is back in storage...Life can get back to normal...however normal that may be.
I got my digital camera for Christmas, so far the kids and I have had alot of fun taking pictures of about everything.
I never even imagined taking pictures of things like bubbles, static lights, and tree ornaments individually. I love the thought of taking pics, reviewing and deleting if they aren't what I wanted.
We were playing with my daughters static globe and took pictures of it in a dark room, she is going to enter them into our county fair for a 4-H project, something unusual...seems to be what gets the higher ribbon and makes it to state.

Then there's the horse...my daughter is 14, but still likes her little kiddie play horses, it is what she wanted. I think she gave up on asking for a real pony, so this year she just wanted one she could ride...I have to admit, it is a step up from the horses on a stick...Good thing, this one doesn't make any noise. And the cats have not claimed it as a sleeping spot yet.

Have a great day, I must get back to working on a shawl for "Winter Formal", my sons beautiful "date" needed her wrap for alternations...guess that is to be expected when she is a 50 DD...Glad those aren't mine to lug around. I haven't had to make anything for formal setting yet, so this is proving to be a challenge. But with the color and style, she will be able to use it for prom, too. This way I know it isn't a one time only use. She wanted me to use yarn, it looked terrible, so I am using thread...I think it should be done by the time she graduates college...LOL...I have until February to get it done. Will post pics when it is finished...

Have a great day and stay safe...

Count down to Christmas

Wow, hard to believe there are only 7 days to Christmas, hope everyone has a wonderful safe holiday.

I have been working on trying to keep the tree upright. So far it has only had one major oops...the cats knocked it over at 1:00 am...I was still awake so I tried to stand the thing back up without waking the kids. The closest we can guess is that Koko rode the thing to the floor. Fortunately nothing was broken, or so we thought, until we fixed it again and plugged the lights in, it was then that I found out that the tip broke off one of the bubble lights. No one was hurt though, thank God, I could have only imagined that vet bill for getting glass ornament fragments out of the cats hides. So far this year we have only had one fatality on the glass balls, Pita and Pigglet were playing and Pita yanked one of the balls off the tree and broke it, shortly there after she came to bed and played innocent...Which we all know better than that by now. I thought I had cleaned all the fragments off the floor, but Koko, the tree cowgirl, found some and has decided they taste better than cat food. Never ever said she was smart.

Got most of the Christmas shopping done last Friday, hubby had the day off work so we shopped at all my favorite stores. Good quality time spent with my husband, something we don't get alot of time to do trying to keep up with all the kids and animals...

Since it is now winter, not officially, but there is more snow so far than all last January, I think that makes it winter in my book, I am trying ot think warm cozy thoughts, I was looking through all the pictures my daughter took on our trip to the shores of Red Rock Lake about 7 miles from my house, we hardly ever make it there due to rain or heat, scaling sandstone is not a fun thing to do when the rocks are wet or the temperatures are above 90. Considering the fact that snakes sunbathe (YUCK), or the rocks are too hot to try and climb. She took this picture looking out over the lake, I thought it looked so calming. She has been taking pictures to show at county fair, hoping to make it to state fair again. Alot of the things she photographs makes me look at it in a whole different perspective than how I would normally look at it. Kind of like looking through a child's eyes. She has quite a bit of talent catching things on film, wow the possibilities of a future career.

Well so far I thought I was caught up on all the gifts I was going to crochet, nope I thought wrong, I still have 3 to finish and only 7 days to do it in. One project isn't even started yet. I am such a slacker. Oh well, my mom can wait on hers, she lives within 15 miles, but my sweet step-mom-in-law lives in Arkansas, yup moved again. They just moved to Minnesota a month ago. I am getting confused, but they said this was the last move for at least 10 years, yeah right they said that 3 moves ago. Oh well who am I to ask any questions???

Have a Wonderful Chirstmas, Remember Jesus is the Reason for the Season

More Freakin' Snow

Yup been snowing all night long, should
be up to about 3 inches since 10 last night. So since it so cold and snowy outside I wanted to show pictures of something warm and cheery. The scenery photos were taken at a state park about 7 miles from my house. I love the old walking bridge, it actually isn't all that old, it just looks that way due to all the moss that has grown on it. Just enjoyed how the light was coming through the trees and made the path look cool and inviting. Considering it was a nice warm 90 degree day when we went for this particular walk.
This is my baby nephew and my niece at a ball game we went to...He was just learning to walk and used the chain link fence to pull himself up, once he was standing sissy needed a good luck kiss and I had the camera...Rarely do we ever get photos of a child doing something so cute. I just felt fortunate to catch this moment for his mom. I think all the parents, grandparents, and aunts have this picture now.
Enjoy your day, keep warm and stay safe...

a few finished

I made this one with the shell shawl pattern, it was a birthday gift for my father-in-law's new wife. Will be a year in January. I used Mainstays yarn, yet again no idea what colors I used. Am getting better at that though. I am now putting a tag on the item so I can remember what I did use in case anyone cares to know. I put shorter fringe on this due to the fact that she is so active outdoors, I didn't want the fringe to get in the way. She likes bright colors, yellows, pinks, baby blues, etc. I am so used to working with darker colors. The darker colors tend to hide dirt and stains better, so they are better for the people I make them for. I plan on making Connie another one in yellow. Hoping she likes it as well. I will put longer fringe on the next one so she has something to wear for more formal occasions. She is such a wonderful woman, I am so happy that they found each other. The two of them just moved back to Arkansas from Minnesota. Quite a change in weather. Wow, one day in Minnesota it is cold, just when you think you want to go outside, you open the door and realize why you want to move somewhere warmer. I visited Minnesota once in January, that was more than enough. The person I was visiting was excited because the high for the day was going to be double digits...This is just crazy to me. I am from Iowa, like the weather for the most part, except the cold, but when we leave 30 degrees to go to 7 degrees, no thank you. I'll take 30 over 7 any day.
This is a shrug I whipped up to see how it would turn out. The yarn is leftovers from some project, no bands on the skeins, so no idea what color. I held the verigated with yellow throughout the entire thing. Worked up very fast. Now I am going to frog it and try something else. Sounds like so much fun..Frogging is a great way to relieve stress. Lord only knows I have enough of that in my life.

Have a great day everyone, be safe and stay warm, if you are some place warm, I will gladly send you some of our snow, just give me an addy. I will even express ship it. Been working on scarves for a giving tree for our 4-H youth. I didn't really see a point in purchasing scarves from the store when I can make them a whole lot cheaper. Plus the hand made ones seem to last longer (I still have one my mom made me when I was 3 or 4) that would make it 30 years old and it still hasn't shown any signs of wear. Granted now it doesn't match anything I own, but who really cares? I don't. My personal opinion, green matches anything...LOL.

Quilts for Ronald McDonald House

My kids are in 4-H. This last year a lady had passed away and her husband donated her fabric stash to our group. The leader had a wonderful idea of making quilts for Ronald McDonald house in Des Moines. Here are 2 of them that my daughter and youngest son did by themselves. Not bad for beginners. First quilts they have ever done. I wasn't able to get any pictures of my oldest son with his quilt nor my youngest son with his 2nd quilt.
Since this project started my oldest son and I have been getting things ready for 4 or 5 more quilts. These will be used as Christmas gifts next year though. After he is done showing at county fair. We have the fabric for a Disney Princess with purples and pinks, Native american with teepees, tans and blues, an American Flag themed one in different shade and patterns of reds, whites and blues. The last one is a 4-H themed one in numerous shades and patterns in green. Then if I dig in my fabric I could find enough other fabric to make another quilt in pinks, purples, reds, and blues. The Easter one is still in the planning, I need to find other fabrics that will match the theme of Easter Bunnies.
I have been looking everywhere for Disney Princess fabric that only has Belle on it. No luck...seems like she is not important. I am a HUGE Beauty and the Beast fan. So I am hoping my son, when he does the princess quilt, will let me help. You can never have enough emphasis on Belle.
My husband laughs at me because a few years ago all I wanted for Christmas was a porcelain 'Belle' doll sold by Avon. I was getting ready to order the thing. I think Shawn was in on the joke with the Avon rep...wouldn't ya know it...out of stock. I was heartbroken. When what happens...I not only got the doll, I also got a new copy of the movie...my copy is about worn out. Kind of makes me wonder what is planned this year for Christmas. Ya just never know.

Have a great day.

Pigglet

My baby Pigglet, or should I say my daughter's "puppy". I only thought I had one or two, but noooooo. I have about 5 going. 1 tilted granny afghan, 1 shrug, 1 shawl, and a blanket for my youngest. Then there is the afghan that I want to make out of stars. Thought that would be a cool looking throw. Plus it is a good way to use up all the yarn sitting around my house. It has been in a box so long, I think it is starting to reproduce ( I swear there wasn't that much when I put it in the box).

Shrug-a-licious

This is my daughter modeling again. So here it is, my very first winging it creation... Still a little rough around the edges, but if you see errors or ways to improve the pattern I am more than willing to adjust accordingly.
I tried to work from point up, but didn't like how it looked after 15 rows so it got frogged.

I used an H hook, and 3 colors of thread/yarn. Still not sure what the numbers mean, but the tags say... Goldenrod, 2/24, Brown Bittersweet, 2/24, and Brown Kettle, 2/20. (A thrift store find.) Some strange (to me) thread type stuff on a cone. The whole thing is about the consistency of using baby yarn.
As far as the pattern goes... 2 solid rows, 1 mesh row.
Always leave the last 2 stitches of the row unworked.
Ch 251, sc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in each stitch across.
1) Turn, slst in 1st 2 stitches. Ch 3 dc in each across, leaving last 2 unworked.
2) Turn, slst in 1st 2 stitches. Ch 4 sk 1 dc, dc in next, (ch 1, sk 1, dc in next) repeat across leaving last 2 unworked.
3) Turn, slst in 1st 2 stitches. Ch 3 dc in each ch 1 space and dc across, leaving last 2 stitches unworked..
4 - ?? repeat rows 1 - 3 until only one stitch or mesh remains in row.

Add fringe, which I cut 14 inch strands to make the fringe longer and it looks better (I think so at least). I used 6 strands in each dc stitch on the ends.

More of my babies

'Lil Fellers and Pita taking time out for a nap. I know make something you can give away for Christmas. I have just finished a 'Spider Web' snood. Really surprised myself on that one. None of that nasty elastic to pull my hair out. Whew... Once I get a picture posted I will also post the pattern. It took a grand total of about an hour to make. Made it during one of my Friday night programs. And a lot less of an attitude.

poem by my daughter

In The Fridge Blues
When I woke up this morning
I looked in the fridge
Something was growing
I still don't know what it is
Growin' in the fridge
on a piece of cheese
Something with eyeballs
GOD HELP ME PLEASE!!!
On the bottom shelf
getting kind of moldy
last years lasagna
last months macaroni
Growin' in the fridge
on a piece of pepperoni
something with scales
(I think his name is Tony!)
Could have been a dragon
or from the Black Lagoon
whatever it is, wherever it's from

I DON'T CARE!!!
(I just hope it moves out soon!)

Yarn type

Ok to answer a few questions, I finally found a supplier that carries the yarn I used for the Ombree shawl. It is mainstays tan and autumn splendor. I knew I would eventually figure it out.

Then I figured since I had my baby girl posted, I'd better post the dog. This is Tyson in all his, (yes it is a boy) glory. You couldn't even begin to
imagine the things we do to this dog. He loves every minute of it too. At one point and
time we finger-painted him and made him look
like a horse. He even wants his nails painted when anyone in the house polishes theirs. Sorry no pictures of that ordeal. Not bad for an extremely abused animal that has lived longer than expected. So that leaves 3 more cats and 2 more kids to post. New pictures almost every day.

Have a great, safe day.

Yet Another Cold Day

My version Of Martha's Poncho
This poncho was done in Red Heart Soft Baby, Lilac. The first poncho I ever made, and I kept it for a demo version. Have had alot of people wanting it. Too Bad, what else would I wear to a softball game or soccer game with my kids when the temperatures decide to drop to all time lows in May.

My model for most of my projects is my daughter, Betty. She is not very feminine, but is more than willing to model anything I ask...Am very surprised she smiled for me.

I had problems with the edging, so I did my own thing.

As far as the yarns used on the Ombree shawl, to the best of my memory I used mainstays country tan, the verigated yarn I have no idea, it was on clearance sale and has since been discontinued. All I can remember is it is a verigated which blends a green, red, and tan color together.

I came to the conclusion that I should start writing down what colors I use for which project. That might help me remember quite a bit more. Ah well live and learn I guess. I forgot what type of yarn I did use. As soon as I make a trip to Wal-Mart I will post the brand and colour for you. The newest one in the same pattern is being done in Red Heart Drk Orchid and Red Heart Plum Pudding. I do remember the yarn brand is Red Heart super saver. The pattern used is Ombree Plus Shawl found here http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/shawls_etc.php , lots of patterns.
The one I am working on now is larger, the lady I am making it for is approximately a 6 - 8 X. Stay up in Minnesota where they know what to do with you.

I have started on a shawl, my own design. Really pretty, but it is a long process trying to stitch and write down what I do at the same time. I figured I would finally do something with the thread type stuff I got at Goodwill. So a shawl it is. I think if I read the cone right, they are 2/24 and 2/20, what ever that means.

I am so excited I finally got a picture to download. This is one of the first shawls I did, took forever and I hated making it, but it turned out to be one of my favorites. Will be a Christmas gift for my sister. Just hoping she will like it. She isn't really feminine, she has 4 boys to raise and lives on a farm, but I figured she would need something nice to wear to church. Right now I am working on the same pattern only it is being done in shades of plum.

Not to mention the tree skirt I am trying to make for my mom, no pattern, just winging it. It will have ruffles by the time it is finished. 18 rows down, ? rows to go.

On a side note, my kids will probably be posting too. If you want patterns, I can try and get you links, no copies due to copyright laws and all that good stuff.
Inappropriate questions or comments WILL NOT BE TOLERATED, and this will be the last time they will ever be addressed.
Now that you all think I am just a nasty, nasty person, I hope you enjoy your stay, not to mention all my ramblings.
The pictures will be posted as soon as I can get them put on disc due to the fact that I do not own a digital camera as of yet .
Have a great day everyone, Crochet hugs...Tonya
